A Michigan electrical company for repairs, installations and emergencies
Searching for an electrician near me should not turn into a week of voicemail. MQT Electricians answers the phone, gives you a written price and does the work to the Michigan Electrical Code. We are a residential electrician, a commercial electrical contractor and a 24 hour emergency electrician under one name.
Michigan buildings ask a lot of their wiring. Winters are long, storms off the Great Lakes knock out power, and a large share of the state's homes were built before modern electrical loads existed. Whether you need a sparking outlet made safe tonight, a 200 amp panel upgrade before your EV arrives or a whole building wired from the ground up, we have done it before.
People compare electrical companies near me on price, and that is fair. We would add two more tests: does the company explain what it found, and does the repair last? Affordable electrical work is work you only pay for once.

Common questions about our electrical services
What areas of Michigan does MQT Electricians serve?
We serve cities, towns and villages across both peninsulas, from Marquette and the Upper Peninsula to Metro Detroit, West Michigan and the Thumb. See the full list on our locations page.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency electrician service?
Yes. Call (888) 633-7804 at any hour for sparking outlets, burning smells, lost power and other urgent problems. Read more about our emergency electrician service.
How much does an electrician cost?
Small repairs are usually quoted on the spot. Larger jobs such as panel upgrades, rewiring and generator installations receive a written price after we see the site. You always know the cost before work begins.
Do I need a permit for electrical work in Michigan?
Most electrical work requires a permit and inspection, issued by your local building department or by the State of Michigan where there is no local program. We explain what applies to your project.
Should I upgrade from 100 amps to 200 amps?
If you are adding an EV charger, heat pump, hot tub or addition, or if your panel is full, probably yes. A load calculation gives a definite answer. See electrical panel upgrade.
My breaker keeps tripping. What should I do?
Unplug everything on the circuit and reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off and call. The cause may be an overload, a short or a worn breaker. See circuit breaker replacement and electrical troubleshooting.
Why are my lights flickering?
A single flickering light is usually the bulb or dimmer. Flicker across several rooms can indicate a loose connection or failing neutral and should be checked promptly. See electrical repair.
